Virtual witnessing of Wills and Powers of Attorney

GOOD NEWS: On April 7, 2020, the Ministry of the Attorney General announced an Order in Council declaring that the requirement of witnesses being in the physical presence of a client when signing Wills and Powers of Attorney has been lifted and the use of video conference is permitted during the period of COVID-19 emergency. The caveat is that a lawyer or another person licensed by the Law Society of Ontario must be one of the witnesses. So, we can now help clients and be safe.
